So you're a male journalist and in reporting on the subject of a lady whose appearance is irrelevant to her profession (not, say, a runway model or a movie star or indeed a public performer of any sort), you feel the need to add that the lady in question is gorgeous. Very well. Free speech and all that. Your estimation may even meet wide agreement.

However, if you're going to indulge in that sort of digression, be consistent and offer your opinion on the looks of all your subjects, whatever their gender or how they strike you.

Studiomates wanted / On se cherche des colocs de studio

Je partage un studio avec les dessinateurs Yanick Paquette, Serge LaPointe, Éric Thériault et Joel Seguin. Pour cause de déménagements et de nouvelles jobs trop loin, on vient de perdre des colocs qu'il faudrait qu'on remplace.

Le lieu est un long appartement pas séparé qu'on a rempli de nos tables à dessin, donc on a une cuisine et une salle de bains civilisées. C'est de l'ordre de 120 à 160$/mois, plus on est de fous moins c'est cher.

I share a studio with fellow artists Yanick Paquette, Serge LaPointe, Éric Thériault and Joel Seguin. Our other studiomates have just left us because of new jobs and new apartments, and so we need to replace them.

The studio is in fact one of those long apartments without separating walls which we've filled with our drawing boards, so we've a civilized bathroom and kitchen. It costs something to the order of 120 to 160$/month, the more studiomates the less expensive it is for each.

I run for twenty minutes every two days, I walk at least a couple of hours a day. Consequently, I destroy shoes within a couple of months, and notice I did when they destroy my socks. This is getting annoying and expensive.

We are no longer whole.

I was never supposed to need another colorist again. One of the best would either sit right next to me or stay within Skype earshot for the rest of my career.

He drove the van the lot of us rented to get to the 2007 New York Con I came back from with our PUNISHER gig. The last time we spoke was over MSN, and we were planning to once again this year be stuck at U.S. customs making Statue of Liberty jokes; he, as a Frenchman, had to pay for the pleasure of getting fingerprinted by American border guards.

We were also planning to petition Marvel so they'd let us do an Ultimate Captain France book. There's a joke he had issues with in some other gentlemen's book, about the letter on someone's forehead not standing for France.

He had one constant fault as my model for the Punisher: he always smiled. No matter how steely and mean I told him to look, there was always an upturned corner I'd have to shave off his mouth in the drawing.

Our PUNISHER book shipped yesterday, four days too late for him to ever see it. As far as the official credits go, it will be the only book we've ever done together. The fact is, he never stopped being my model for the Punisher, and he and Olivier bent back double to keep feeding me reference photos throughout his time back in France.

He never said no. He always showed up. He could take the load.

I live in the first apartment he lived in when he got here. I train at the gym he used to go to. The first walk I took in Central Park I took with him.

At some point, he may have satisfactorily explained to me, out of the whole lot of them, why Cyclops?

I didn't keep many of his e-mails because they weren't supposed to become rare. In one of the only two I have, he promised to bring back a French-language copy of my first STAR WARS gigs. When he came back.

I bought the last seasons of both DEADWOOD and ROME. So I could lend them to him. When he came back.

There was not supposed to come a time when I'd cry at the tought of mispronouncing Monty Python.

There's so much I've just lost I can barely stand it.

There's so much I'll keep forever.

I hope I've made it clear while he could hear, how grateful I am.

Last weekend, Stéphane Peru died suddenly of some congenital heart problem he never knew he had. He would've been 27 in three weeks, right after coming back here from wintring in Paris.

Right here. They neglect to say it's beautifully colored by Stéphane Peru, who finished it just yesterday. The Marvel webmaster seems to have asked the DC webmaster how to spell my name, even though my name is spelled correctly in the body of the text. Odd.

Ramassé cette moitié de tome à terre au Parc Lafontaine, à la fois parce qu'un demi-livre gratis, c'est pas cher, et par curiosité des aventures extraconjugales du Baron de Foie Gras avec la Marquise de Monpied.

Coïncidence: les pages arrachées par la précédente propriétaire finissent juste avant la section qui parle de la Régence de Philippe d'Orléans, époque de l'action du BOSSU. LE BOSSU, cadeau d'Isabelle Stephen, est depuis la semaine avant ma demi-trouvaille le seul film que je peux regarder sur mon VHS, l'éjection ayant choisi de pêter la première fois que je l'ai regardé. J'ai donc maintenant connaissance du décor historique de ma seule et gigantesque cassette VHS autojouante.

Je suppose une propriétaire précédente parce que l'objet, publié en 1960, est vomitif d'un chauvinisme masculin qui laisse peu surpris qu'on l'ait déchiré avant de le garrocher à bout de bras en plein parc. Ça regorge de propos comme quoi la femme avilit tout ce qui passe, mais souligne par une citation mémorable qu'il peut arriver accidentellement parfois sans faire exprès qu'une femme ait un à peine perceptible bon fond. Je soupçonne quelqu'un d'avoir eu un pénis microscopique.

Éducatif tout de même: je ne savais pas auparavant qu'un être humain s'était déjà vu affubler du nom de chevalier Destouches Canon. J'ai d'abord cru que c'était l'équivalent d'époque du centurion Biggus Diccus.
